Football fans don’t always get what they want. Giovanni van Bronckhorst was a popular appointment at the time and seemed an obvious choice, however, his position as Rangers manager is now, simply, untenable.

It’s possible to feel sympathy for Gio in terms of how often he’s been able to field his best XI players and the hand he has been dealt with by Ross Wilson and his recruitment team, but also aware that the club is slowly moving backwards in a season where there is time to make a difference should the board act.

With three Old Firm derbies and two at Ibrox, bigger leads than seven points have been overturned with so many games still to be played but there is zero confidence that Van Bronckhorst is the man capable of inspiring such a comeback, leading fan media sites Heart and Hand and Four Lads Had a Dream empathic in their opinion of the Gers gaffer

Heart and Hand“There’s no way back for Gio. He has to go. It’s the same shapeless crap constantly. Get rid today.”

Four Lads“Take Wilson and the ever-hiding boardroom with him also The position of Chairman requires leadership, lead the club or get out for someone who can Not to mention the shambles elsewhere Gio HAS to go but he should take half a dozen others with him also.”

Sacking Gio only solves one problem, we would still have an extensive injury list and a recruitment team that has more misses than hits. Stevie Clifford from Four Lads is right though, we are drifting and that comes from those at the top – making the manager redundant barely scratches the surface of our current issues but would, at least, be a start.
