Giovanni van Bronckhorst has returned home to the Netherlands without emptying his desk or packing up his locker which makes you think that a 9-point gap in the Scottish Premiership and a disastrous Champions League campaign isn’t enough to see him sacked.

Speculation continues on an hourly basis about whether or not the board are going to act. For once, they would be fully supported in a decision and, with a World Cup and five-week break until our next fixture ahead of the transfer window opening, there really couldn’t be a better time to make changes.

Despite the quiet, Football Insider has reported that the Gers manager is still likely to be removed from his position:

“Rangers are increasingly likely to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the coming days after weekend crisis talks, sources have told Football Insider.

“The Ibrox board of directors have been locked in discussions about the future of the Dutchman following Saturday’s 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw at St Mirren.

“Football Insider revealed on Saturday that QPR manager Michael Beale is currently Rangers top target to replace Van Bronckhorst.”

Sacking Gio is one thing, but appointing Michael Beale is far from the solution that many think it could be. We struggled in the last six months of his time under Steven Gerrard and, at QPR, he is far from blazing a trail. It is far too early to suggest that he is ready for the Rangers job, regardless of how much he would appear to want it from his regular media appearances.

I just can’t see the board taking such a big gamble when the squad needs to be overhauled nor do I see us appointing a coach who implemented our game plan to beat the dreaded low block – one that, after three years, we never really got to grips with, anyone suggesting otherwise is looking back with 55 tinted glasses on.
