Gers new boy will get “better and better” claims Gerrard

|

Rangers put in arguably their best 90 minute performance in Saturday’s friendly with Brighton despite only coming out with a 0-0 draw, if Steven Gerrard’s men had been more clinical and, but for some dodgy refereeing, it could have been a morale boosting win.

Speaking to Rangers TV and reported by the Glasgow Times,  the Gers gaffer was pleased with what he saw and, in particular, reserved special mention for Fashion Sakala who was making his debut in the Ibrox sunshine:

“Fashion is only a week in and that’s after being in a hotel room for ten days which is tough.

“With time and more games and as he gets used to us and our style he will get better and better.

“You could see in the box he wants to get shots off, so that’s another positive.

“Barisic and [Glen] Kamara got minutes in their legs as well which is good.

“We have another big test [on Sunday] and then we have next week.”

As Gerrard said, Sakala has got massive potential in terms of what he could offer Rangers, one of the frustrations in previous years is that our players can be shot shy from outside the box, as we’ve seen from his time at Oostende, the Zambian won’t hesitate to pull the trigger if he is given the slightest hint of a chance – with either foot.

Will Rangers qualify for the group stages of the Champions League?

Yes

Yes

No

No

We are gradually getting to see more first-team regulars in the Rangers line-up and with it we have seen a gradual improvement in performance, the only cause for concern has been a lack of goals from open players throughout pre-season, hopefully they are saving them for when the proper football starts.
