The name on his shirt read Fashion Jr, but whether you opt for this homage to his father or alternatively, Fashion Sakala, there is no doubt that the Zambian is the man who most Rangers supporters are talking about.

What a weekend for the former Oostende attacker, receiving a true blue welcome at Ibrox with more to come once a capacity crowd is permitted.

Writing today for The Athletic, Jordan Campbell intimated that Sakala rejected offers from all ‘big five’ leagues in Europe – England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France – due to the feel for Rangers offer and the allure of the pitch set-out by Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson.

The article stated:

“He could have gone to a more prestigious league but a source close to him said he had a “special feeling” about Rangers, which took into account the club’s ambition to become a regular in the Champions League, the chance to work with Gerrard and the size and history of the club.”

“His agency Wasserman also did extensive research into how his profile would fit into the style of play and decided that Ibrox was the place to be.”

Joy

As Sakala blasted a Rangers equaliser against Los Blancos yesterday, he darted to the Copland/Main Stand corner of the pitch and took in the roar of the fans and then what followed next was an already familiar attribute of the 24-year old – not his lightning pace or his finishing, but his wide smile.

As an individual with a very impoverished upbringing, his story is literally one of rags to riches.

Combined with his humility and his faith, Fashion Sakala is a lover of life and he aims to enjoy every possible moment on the pitch.

That smile, as wide as the Clyde, will not be restricted to goal celebrations, as was evidenced in his post-match interview.

Expect to see this face and expect to love it, more and more over the coming months.
