Rangers are interested in signing Bolton Wanderers defender Mark Beevers this summer, having scouted him in a recent pre-season game against Spanish side Girona.

That’s according to an exclusive report in The Express, which also states that he is a cheaper alternative to prime target Jake Cooper, a player that has been the subject of a number of failed Rangers bids to Millwall.

Beevers is currently rated as worth £450,000 by Transfermarkt, with just a year left on his contract at the Macron Stadium.

Although the club have already signed Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson this summer, Steven Gerrard is still on the hunt for a central defender after the departures of David Bates and Bruno Alves, with Fabio Cardoso also expected to leave this summer.

Beevers certainly has the experience required to be a success at Ibrox, having made almost 250 apppearances in the English Championship with clubs like Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday.

He was an integral part of the Bolton side that narrowly escaped relegation from the division last season, making 44 league appearances from the club’s 46 games.

As shown by WhoScored, he was at the heart of Bolton’s defensive displays, his average of 8.8 clearances per game third highest in the division behind Pontus Jansson and Michael Mancienne.

Bringing that kind of committed performer to Ibrox would be an excellent bit of business on the face of it, complementing the other defensive acquisitions perfectly.

Can the club now get a deal done for the 28 year-old?
