Saturday wasn’t just a good result, it was a changing of the guard and a sign of two teams on opposite trajectories with Rangers clearly on the way up and Celtic in a race to the bottom.

To confound this further, Declan Gallagher is rumoured to be on his way to Parkhead, a defender not known for his ball playing skills but for his ability to stand on the edge of the six-yard box and smash anything that comes near him 50 yards up the pitch – you would think they’d have learned from the Shane Duffy signing, apparently not though.

What this reminded me of was when we were linked with Eamonn Brophy, yes, he is a Scotland international, but is he Rangers quality? No, far from it.

Light Blues fans wanted him at Ibrox because he has caused us issues in the past, a metric previously used to sign players like Jordan Jones or Greg Stewart but one that is no longer relevant for Ross Wilson, that we have signed Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten to supplement our attack is a significant upgrade on a player now on his way to St Mirren.

Be honest, did you want us to sign Brophy?

Yes

Yes

No

No

I always apply my own logic when we are linked with players – “Is he better than what we already have, and is he better than his opposite number at Celtic?”.

Gallagher doesn’t get near our starting XI and if he is being signed to replace a soon-to-depart Kris Ajer, despite his laughable histrionics, it would be a significant down grade and one that marks their demise as much as Brophy’s move to St Mirren indicates our rise.
