There’s one thing that Rangers fans can agree on – when we sit back and let teams dominate possession, we don’t look anywhere near as good a team.

Against Hearts and Hibs we looked a lot more proactive and played to our strengths rather than trying to stop our opponents from getting the best out of theirs, how it should be for the current champions of Scotland.

Borussia Dortmund is a different story though in that we won’t be able to control the game quite as easily, especially in Germany, but this doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have a go, an opinion held by former Ger, Jorg Albertz who knows the Bundesliga giants well, as told to The Sunday Mail:

“The important thing is Rangers give themselves a chance in Dortmund.

“I wouldn’t sit back against this team, they’re vulnerable at the back and make mistakes.

“On the counter-attack, if Rangers can create chances – especially with Alfredo Morelos on form – they can get success.”

The Hammer is right, Dortmund concede goals and most of them are from set-pieces and on the counter attack, two areas in which we should look to exploit them, there is though, a massive difference between sitting in and playing to a game plan, if we simply concede possession it could be a long night.

We’ll get a good indication of what the tactics are going to be from the team that Giovanni van Bronckhorst selects, especially in midfield and the forward line. This is arguably our toughest test for over a decade but we have played good teams before and managed to get results, if we are still in with a chance for the second leg at Ibrox then it will be a job well done.
