Believe it or not but the team sitting second in the Bundesliga has a weakness and, it could, play into one of our strengths.

We might not have been quite as prolific this season, however, we remain a powerful attacking unit at set pieces especially when we have either Leon Balogun or Filip Helander alongside Connor Goldson at the heart of the defence.

With Erling Haaland likely to be missing, Borussia Dortmund have one less aerial threat who can contribute at both ends of the park and, when you look at the numbers, it could well play into our hands.

Last season, an article in besoccer.com highlighted just how poor they were at defending free-kicks and corners, performing better only than relegated Schalke, and it has one much better this time around.

According to whoscored.com, 45% of their goals conceded at home come from conceding at set-pieces and counter attacks, 28% alone is from dead ball situations, this should have a bearing on the team that Giovanni van Bronkhorst selects.

For example, Scott Arfield is a better all-round player but Fashion Sakala is a threat from both set-pieces and counter attacks, it all depends on how the gaffer wants to set up and what his tactics are going to be.

A Rangers team with Balogun, Connor Goldson, Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo, Alfredo Morelos and Sakala is one that has plenty of targets to aim for and against a team that we might not get a lot of chances, we need to be clinical, that two of our strengths are areas they are relatively weak in should be exploited – it’s a missed opportunity if we don’t.
