Gary McAllister has hinted at a possible shift of position for James Tavernier into the Rangers midfield, not just as cover for Ryan Jack, but to allow Nathan Patterson to fulfil his potential and get two players of obvious quality into the team at the same time.

Utilising the skipper as an auxiliary midfielder makes sense on paper but we would still need to recruit in the summer with one Vital Rangers favourite still not being snapped up, despite his contract being up in just a matter of weeks.

Dejan Ljubicic is enjoying a fine season with Rapid Vienna with one goal and six assists from his defensive midfield position and having been linked with him before when he had a £3million price-tag on his head, it seems strange that we haven’t returned for him given that he is now available for free.

The 23-year old has missed under 25 games since 2017 with his longest absence being due to an ankle ligament sustained earlier this season, that he has recovered from and shows no signs of being hindered by, however, with a little further digging there may be an underlying issue preventing any potential transfer.

Last summer he was set for a move to Chicago Fire in MLS but it fell through due to a failed medical, the American’s claiming that he had an ACL problem with his knee, something the player – and his Rapid coach – vehemently denies.

He is undoubtedly talented but it would be strange for a club to make such a claim about a player if they had no evidence to support it, it’s one to keep an eye on, however, given our history with dodgy knees, it could be that Ibrox isn’t his next destination after all.
