Rangers are “confident” that a deal to get Connor Goldson to extend his stay at Ibrox is close, however, until a deal is done, there will be plenty of sleepless nights.

Replacing our vice-captain and player who played every minute of every game would take some doing, with former England team-mate of the Gers gaffer, Kevin Phillips, claiming it must be the easiest decision of the summer to get the 28-year old signed up, as reported by Football Insider:

“Get him signed.

“Why would you not? You’ve got a player who is reliable and clearly very fit.

“He played every game there last season and he clearly loves it there. Get him signed.

“Get him on a deal. As long as he’s not holding the club to ransom, I’m sure they will get that sorted.

“It’s common sense that one.”

Goldson should be one of out top earners, that he was reportedly close to re-signing in April should give some encouragement with only the fine details needing to be ironed out to get it over the line.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

We have to be realistic though, we can’t match the Premier League in terms of wages and for all that he has written his name in history at Ibrox, if he gets the opportunity to return south to a decent club and the offer matches our valuation, there could be only one outcome.

Phillips is right, Ross Wilson really needs to “get him signed”, we have a decent centre-half contingent but the former Brighton man leads a defence that conceded just 13 goals in the Premiership last season, that, if you were in any doubt, shows exactly how important it is to see him tied down to a new deal.
