Rangers managed to get a few decent transfer deals done during the January transfer window, mainly with one eye on next season but the arrival of Scott Wright and Jack Simpson immediately strengthens Steven Gerrard’s team.

One man who has impressed the Gers gaffer before and remains on his radar, according to Football Insider, is Billy Gilmour, with the Scotland youth international being hotly tipped to leave Chelsea on a loan move January.

The window shut and the former Rangers academy prospect stayed in London and he will now have to fight to work his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans having been left out recently.

Gilmour easily has the talent to be part of the Scotland squad heading to the European Championships, even if he isn’t playing games, however, it won’t do his chances any favours if he is sitting in the stands every week – sometimes managers can be selfish in this regard, especially if he has no plans to play him other than the odd five minutes here and there or even worse, keeping him just as cover.

The report claims that Rangers enquired about the availability of the midfielder and are also keeping tabs on the situation, if he still isn’t featuring more regularly, there could yet be a summer move.

Who would you rather see in the squad?

There seems to be two camps in the Light Blues support, many would love to see such a talent return to where he belongs but there is also another side that feel we should be giving our own players the chance to develop, for example Stephen Kelly, who has done well on loan at Ross County.

It could just be speculation but we would be mad to turn down Gilmour if the opportunity is presented, he knows the club, the expectations and more importantly is an outstanding player and the more of them we have the better.
