Record breaking Rangers branded “bland and average”

Remember when Celtic thought that they had one of their best ever transfer windows and they were “sitting there thinking” that 10-in-a-row was a foregone conclusion?

Well, you might, or might not, remember the spat between former manager Neil Lennon and Charlie Nicholas as the two footballing geniuses went toe-to-toe in the media, the latter ultimately coming out on top but, in a bizarre rant about his old team’s failings, the deposed Sky Sports pundit has made one of the worst calls of the season – in a long list of bad calls – in his Daily Express column:

“Watching Celtic lose 4-1 at Ibrox on Sunday was a sad sight. Rangers could have won by six or seven if they really wanted to.

“The Hoops need a new goalkeeper, right-back, left-back, three centrebacks, wingers and strikers.

“It is scary how far they have fallen under this regime.

“Rangers have done the business in the league this season but you can’t say they are a great team.

“They are a bland, average side who won the title by an absolute mile. I called it at the start of the season but I saw it coming nine months earlier.”

Yes, you read that correctly, Rangers are a “bland, average side”.

We won the league eight weeks ago!

We are the top goal scorers in the league by some distance and could finish with over 90 in total, we are on track for a British record for goals conceded and clean sheets, we are also just a couple of wins – against Livingston and Aberdeen – away from 100 points and one of the highest ever tallies, oh yeah, and we got to the last 16 of the Europa League, again.

None of this is average.

Ryan Kent’s performance against Celtic on Sunday was far from bland, Alfredo Morelos’s goal to put us in front was anything other than average and the same can be said for the third and fourth goals on an afternoon when the gulf in class was evident from the first whistle.

Charlie, you might not can say that Rangers are a “great team”, but nobody cares, we know and you know that the evidence points to something that you and your brethren have been ignoring all season – we are back on top, we are, simply, the best.
