Rangers have been linked with a pre-contract agreement deal with QPR’s Bright Osayi-Samuel and one man who has praised the potential transfer is former full-back Alan Hutton.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton believes that the 22-year old ticks a lot of boxes but that they won’t be the only ones looking to secure his signature.

So what has Hutton said?

When asked to comment on the recent speculation involving Osayi-Samuel and a move to his old club, he said:

“They seem to kind of find all these players, don’t they, in the last year of their contract.

“A guy with good numbers last season, he’s obviously a great talent, I think there will be other teams looking at him, to be honest, I don’t think Rangers will be the only ones but they’re definitely looking for that type of player that unlocks defences, can score a goal, can assist.

“I do think they need other options, I do think they rely quite heavily on the likes of Hagi and Kent – Kent for me is way out in front, I think we need more from Hagi.

“I think that’s where they’re looking for a little bit of competition, in those type of areas, and these are players that are definitely going to improve the squad.”

So is Hutton correct?

The way Rangers are currently playing perfectly suits the QPR man’s style of play, similar to Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe, he is another example of a modern forward, capable of operating anywhere behind a central striker and moving between defensive lines.

Do Rangers need to upgrade on Barker and Jones?

Yes

Yes

No

With five goals and nine assists, the £4.7million rated star has shown that he has got the potential to produce decent numbers, and in a team that wasn’t exactly high flying last season.

Jordan Jones is seemingly on his way out, coincidentally with QPR a possible destination, and Brandon Barker – despite all his chances – is yet to produce anything of note regardless of his involvement in the overall build up play, securing back-up and an additional attacking threat appears to be near the top of the list of priorities as Gerrard looks to ensure the goals don’t dry up this season in the same way that they did in the second half of last.
