In most walks of life, if you poll 87% of anything it is a pretty clear indication of what a population desires.

There was a strong response to Bongani Zungu‘s part in the 1-1 draw with Hamilton on Sunday, he wasn’t poor, but he certainly didn’t provide the same box-to-box contribution that Steven Davis or Ryan Jack do on a weekly basis.

With little chance to judge him objectively, fans are having to base opinions on him when he is given a chance from the start and so far, the lasting memories will be struggling to beat the team bottom of the league and St Mirren in the league cup.

Rangers retain first refusal on the South African international but there is little support to make the move permanent and with 87% of nearly 500 fans wanting him to be sent back to Amiens, it’s safe to say it is £2.7million that they would rather see spent elsewhere.

That Ross Wilson is now being linked with other midfielders paints it’s own picture, as does the signing of Nnamdi Ofoborh, preparations for next season are more than well under way.

There is no doubt that Zungu is a decent player, we’ve seen flashes of his passing range and what he is capable of, when he has come off the bench to see games out he has followed Steven Gerrard’s instructions to the letter but he has too many obstacles in front of him blocking him from getting any real momentum or consistency.

The opinion of fans has little bearing on a club’s recruitment policy, however, in this instance, I’d be surprised if they aren’t singing off the same song sheet.
