Football fans have never been known for being a forgiving bunch and with just 530 minutes under his belt for Rangers, Bongani Zungu has been written off as a dud, and one that should be sent back to France without any consideration to making his deal permanent.

The South African international has been unlucky in that Steven Davis is the player he was brought into cover, that the Northern Ireland skipper looks fitter than he has ever been and is producing close to his best form has seen regular game time for Zungu at a premium.

This doesn’t make him any less of a player, I’m not for one second blaming him, but it was Davis that allowed the cross to come in from the right for Hamilton Accies equaliser, not Zungu – unfortunately though, he will, until he shows otherwise, be the scapegoat for any poor team performances when he starts.

What to do with Zungu?

There was already the 3-2 defeat against St Mirren hanging over him, ignoring the fact that he was one of – if not the only – Rangers player to come out of that game with any credit paints a picture in itself as does ignoring the fact that Cedric Itten started that game too – does that make him equally responsible? Of course it doesn’t.

I would still consider signing him for next season but we could see Ross Wilson do his best to get the agreed fee with Amiens negotiated down, anything under £2million and I think he would be worth the money – he’s not done much wrong, he’s just had the misfortune of being in the side when the other ten haven’t turned up.
