Rangers interest in another international has been revealed by none other than the player himself after Ukrainian, Bogdan Mykhaylichenko, let slip that the Ibrox side had been one of a few clubs interested in him before his £500,000 move to Anderlecht.

The 23-year old was playing for Zorya Luhansk in his home country prior to the move to Belgium and explained why he decided to move to Vincent Company’s team, as reported by The Daily Record:

“There was quite a lot of interest in me this summer.

“Rangers made clear they were interested in me so that was an option and so were Werder Bremen, but Anderlecht were the most persistent.

“Dynamo Kiev also wanted me to return to them, but I think Anderlecht was the best option for me.”

The Record claims that the Ukrainian is a midfielder despite Transfermarkt reporting his best position as left-back with the ability to play on the left hand side of midfield, it may be that the paper is putting two and two together and coming up with five when the reality is that Mykhaylichenko was probably a target before Calvin Bassey signed from Leicester City.

The 20-year old made an impressive starting debut for Rangers against Motherwell at the weekend showing that the drop off from Borna Barisic isn’t as big as it has been in previous seasons with the youngster having the athleticism, pace and ability on the ball to provide a decent option in the Croatian’s absence – his name is also an awful lot easier to spell than the one that “got away”…
