The transfer window is only just open and yet, there have been plenty of names linked with a move to Rangers, one of those being former academy kid and Scotland international, Billy Gilmour.

After spending a difficult loan spell out at Norwich City, a move that raised a few eyebrows when it was announced, the 20-year old is set to head out again and we could well be considered as an option but news coming out of Chelsea means that his future at Stamford Bridge might not be as crystal clear as it once was.

As reported by Vital Rangers, the London based club have extended his contract by taking up and option that they had which means that it now expires in the summer of 2024 instead of next year, however, if he does go out on loan again he will be in exactly the same position as this one – a year left to go and a decision as to whether or not Chelsea consider that he will become a regular in their first team.

If we bring him to Ibrox for the season we could well put ourselves at the front of the queue for any future permanent deal, in fact, any loan deal this season could well feature an option to buy, given his contract situation.

Chelsea have a reputation for spending big but, when you look at their current first team, there are a lot of players who came up through their academy who regularly feature, if Gilmour isn’t going to be one of the next ones to make the grade then we should make every effort to return him to where he belongs – we’ve lost him once before and we won’t get a better opportunity to get him back.

What absolute rubbish this article is. Do you honestly think Billy Gilmour is wanting to come back to Rangers having proved he can cut it in the English Premiership ?
He played twenty odd games for Chelsea before injury then a new manager comes in and his position changes .
This would be a step back for Billy and it simply won’t happen , and as a Rangers supporter I would love to see him back playing for us but don’t think this will happen

Depends what his needs are and the other clubs interested, he’s not learned anything at Norwich and, if anything, his confidence has taken a dent. Needs to go to a more dominant team in terms of possession but don’t know if that will be in England, Tuchel doesn’t seem as keen on him.
