Rangers are set to enter the race for Young Boys Cameroon international winger, Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu, according to media reports.

The 26-year old, who played at Ibrox for his current club last season, is rated by Transfermarkt at around £3.4 million.

Premer League clubs such as Everton, Leeds and Leicester have been credited with an interest in the player.

The Liverpool Echo featured speculation on the Toffees tracking Ngamaleu – with another mention of Steven Gerrard’s Gers:

“Meanwhile, Everton are one of a clutch of clubs reported to have to have watched Young Boys winger Moumi Ngamaleu.”

“Leeds United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton and Leicester City and Scottish Premiership champions Rangers have all reportedly watched Young Boys winger Moumi Ngamaleu ahead of potential moves this summer.”

“The 26-year-old plays predominantly on the left but can also play on the right, and has been a key player as the Swiss outfit continue to dominate the Super League.”

Return

If that £3-4mil price point is correct, Rangers would be in amongst the bidding if they decide to move for the player.

Having registered two goal and five assists this season in the Swiss Super League, with an impressive seven and 10 in season 19/20, it is clear that Ngamaleu is capable of a very decent return.

He has been capped 14 times by Cameroon, scoring twice.

The player has gained significant Europa League experience over the last few years – including against Rangers as mentioned above but what about his overall level?

Is he the type to elevate Rangers beyond the current stage – can he make an impact to fire the Gers toward the Champions League and help get the best out of others?

That remains to be seen and is in doubt.

Between now and the close season, a host of contenders will be linked with moves to Ibrox – the challenge for Gerrard, Ross Wilson and the staff is to identify and secure the quality required to continue the evolution of the Scottish Champions.
