Gers legend makes excuses for misfiring Celtic

|

It’s amazing how the Scottish press can set a narrative and recycle it to the the extent that it becomes fact.

They would have you believe that Celtic have an injury crisis and that this is the reason for their drop in form, and yet, there has never been any mention of the problems we have faced since the first ball was kicked in the 2021/22 season.

What doesn’t help is when a former Rangers captain joins in with the excuse making, Barry Ferguson, speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, claiming that they are missing their big players:

“At the start, everybody was talking about how they are playing, but at the end of the day Celtic fans want wins and they are struggling to get that.

“Look, he is missing two or three key players. Kyogo Furuhashi had an unbelievable start to his Celtic career. He looks a great addition. He is a big miss. James Forrest is a big miss too.

“The biggest miss for me is the captain, Callum McGregor. He has been missing the last few games and it’s shown.”

Nothing about us playing our third choice goalkeeper in the first Old Firm derby, or our best centre-half being out for three months, Ryan Jack not kicking a ball all season and Ryan Kent trying to play with one hamstring? We’ve had players missing all over the place to the extent that Steven Davis is the only player in the squad who has been available for every fixture, ironically, the oldest outfield player other than player/coach Jermain Defoe.

Rangers went toe-to-toe with Inter Milan to sign Ronaldo when he left Barcelona.

All it does is highlight how shallow their squad is when two of their main players – McGregor and Kyogo – are out injured, they fall to pieces, the only frustrating thing is that we haven’t truly capitalised by dropping points against Motherwell in a game we really should have been out of sight in.

As long as we keep picking up the wins, they can blame whoever the want for the mess they are in be it referees or bad luck rather than poor recruitment and naive management.
