Having joined 51,000 other supporters in watching Cambridge United knock Newcastle United out of the FA Cup, one thing became blatantly obvious – Alfredo Morelos would almost instantly solve all of Eddie Howe’s problems, if the rumours are true.

They had no depth to their attack, nobody who caused the opposition defence problems and no striker who loved getting the width of the posts and on the end of supply, everything that El Bufalo brings to a forward line.

Newcastle have spent a small fortune on players for their attack and yet are still over reliant on Callum Wilson being fit, which, ironically, isn’t one of his strong points, a good player? Yes. Resilient? Not so much.

It’s astounding the level of snobbery still attached to the SPFL, you could make a very decent team out of players who have moved south and made a name for themselves and yet, teams like Newcastle, continue to overspend on players from abroad or England.

If a player has proven that they can step up to international football and have done well on the continental stage, would giants of the game like Burnley or Norwich City really hold any fears for them?

From which country does Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist come from?

There was a time when Rangers would have taken £20million for Morelos but given the price we got for Nathan Patterson and Newcastle’s newly found wealth, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be asking for more.

First of all though, they would have to come to their senses and realise that they could get quality without breaking the bank, however, we all know that they will turn their noses up, look elsewhere and get robbed blind – and end up in the Championship.

Newcastle’s loss is our gain I suppose.
