After losing a player who could go on to be a genuinely top class player, the last thing Rangers fans would have wanted is to see key members of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first-team heading out too.

There has been speculation that Alfredo Morelos was attracting interest from three Premier League sides with Newcastle United looking to add cover for Callum Wilson but splashing out over £20million on the Colombian international, as reported by Football Insider, there is some good news on that front:

“A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is not currently pursuing a move for Morelos.

“He is looking elsewhere to try and bring in a new forward before the transfer window closes.

“Moreover, Rangers do not need to cash in on Morelos after selling Nathan Paterson to Everton for £12m rising to £16million this week.”

Not only is it good news that Morelos is staying put – six goals and two assists under GvB – the fact that we don’t need to sell to balance the books is even better news, although, if you keep up to date on Vital Rangers you will already know this – both Ross Wilson and Stewart Robertson have stated as much in the past on more than one occasion.

Previously, an offer in the region of £20m would have been enough to see Morelos leave Rangers but, since the record breaking sale of Patterson, his value may have to be reconsidered especially if he maintains his current form, as long as Premier League clubs don’t try and pull the same stunt that Watford did with Borna Barisic, we should be just fine.
