Michael Beale has spoken already about bringing excitement back to Rangers and, if he wants to do this, playing more attack-minded midfielders would be a decent start.

At the moment, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence are still out injured which leaves Malik Tillman and Alex Lowry as our most creative options in the middle of the park.

All four of them are capable of producing moments of magic to win games and will be key to Beale’s long-term planning if he wants to build a successful team, but in the short term, he’ll have to make do with the two youngsters.

If Beale’s first training session is anything to go by, it looks like we could be in safe hands when we kick off again.

Lowry, in the clip below, receives a pass under pressure with nowhere to go before taking out James Tavernier and Steven Davis with two wonderful touches – the ball not hitting the ground until he is away from both of them. His inexperience shouldn’t see his talent underestimated when it comes to picking the starting XI.

We’ve already seen, in his injury-hit first-team appearances, that Lowry is an accomplished finisher and as good a passer of the ball as we have, had he been available he would have played a lot more regularly this season.

With the new manager talking about going for teams and being more on the front foot, do we really need to see the likes of Ryan Jack or Davis alongside John Lundstram when we have a genuine box-to-box midfielder who won’t be happy playing horizontal passes?

If Beale is true to his word, a first start of the season for Lowry could well be around the corner if he continues to impress as he has done on day one.
