He may be just 18 years of age but Alex Lowry is ready now to contribute to Rangers first team, as he proved again tonight.

Yes, he has a long way to go and literally some growing and bulking up ahead, but oh my, what a player Rangers have on their hands. Fresh from signing his three year deal, it is very important that the youngster gets game time next season to aid his development but some would even suggest that there is a place for him now as the Gers go for double glory.

Many of us can recall the significant impact that Barry Ferguson made as a teenager at Ibrox as well as in Europe – think Bayer Leverkusen in 1999 – so it is only right that plenty are getting excited due to the clear abundance of ability that Lowry posesses. Whilst he will be his own man and too much too soon should not be expected, he is so adept and comfortable with the ball at his feet.

This can be the emergence of a special player, but the hard work starts now with a foot in the door of the first team.

The Rangers Review carried a report tonight on the man of the match against Ross County, with the suggestion of that likeness to an Ibrox great:

“It’s been clear for anyone paying attention that Alex Lowry has a touch of stardust about him for some time but the youngster continues to impress with a consistency that belies his tender years.”

“The 18-year-old has a laconic style that’s easy on the eye and the way he moves the ball with intent and precision is reminiscent of the delicate talent displayed in Barry Ferguson’s early appearances.”

Joy

He sways, glides, switches from one foot to the other, plays the daring pass, finds the eye of a needle and more.

The way that lad can manipulate the ball or make that deft touch clearly shows what he is all about. He has all the talent required to be a very good player so now he has to add the rest to his make-up and game in order to make sure that his potential is fulfilled.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst clearly likes what he sees and especially from a Dutch perspective, if you are good enough, you are certainly old enough.
