Fresh from dominating the B team Old Firm derby at Ibrox, Alex Lowry – who is fast approaching being labelled as a wonderkid – has led the way in a different shade of blue, this time in the colours of Scotland Under-19s.
Playing away against a strong Turkey side, the Rangers midfielder not only gave his country the lead but scored the winning goal in the Euro 2022 Elite Round qualification group game in what is a great start to the campaign for the young Scots.
He didn’t just score the winning goal either, he scored a 30-yard free-kick that David Beckham would be proud of.

And if you think it looked good from that angle, wait until you see it from behind the goals.

It’s hard to temper expectations with Lowry, the teenager hasn’t looked out of place whenever he has played for the first team and continuously looks a level above anything else on the park when he plays youth football.
Next season, there is no reason why Lowry can’t play more often in the senior squad because, just as we saw with Barry Ferguson some twenty years ago, a special player, is a special player, regardless of how old they are.
