Those that were lucky enough to go and watch the Rangers B team produce a first-half masterclass to beat Old Firm rivals Celtic 3-0 will have left Ibrox with one thing clear in their mind – Alex Lowry is an absolute baller.

Now, most of you will have known this already, but he demonstrated in a one sided 45 minute period that he is miles above anything at that level – the much vaunted Karamoko Dembele wishing that he was as good as the Rangers midfielder, at least he got a good view of his performance.

It wasn’t just his beautifully placed 25-yard goal that impressed but his range of passing, creating numerous chances for his team-mates when there looked to be little on.

His goal was something else though and yet another indicator that a more regular place in the first-team awaits.

He didn’t blast it or slice it going for the spectacular but instead, made a difficult technique look easy by stroking the ball past the despairing Celtic keeper – I genuinely don’t think that there is anyone in the senior squad that would have scored with such composure.

Going on loan would achieve nothing for the 18-year old, you only need to watch some of the games in the Championship to see that his style of play would be out of place. He is better served at staying at Rangers, training day in, day out with international players and gradually increasing his time on the pitch.

Lowry has a bright future, let’s just hope that his contract gets extended beyond 2023 and he spends it with us.
