Aberdeen “should beat Rangers” claims former Dons star

|

With Ash Taylor already claiming that Rangers were “lucky” in the first two meetings with Aberdeen this season, it is far from a surprise to see a former Don suggesting that a first league defeat is on the cards for Steven Gerrard’s men this weekend.

Speaking to the Evening Express, Frank McDougall has backed his old side to come good on Sunday:

“The key to facing the Old Firm is belief.

“When Rangers and Celtic came to Pittodrie under Fergie there was only ever one winner – Aberdeen.

“We destroyed them every time.

“McInnes has built a good side that should beat Rangers as they can hold their own with anyone over 90 minutes.

“It is only 11 against 11, and you have to go up against them and say we are going to win.”

The difference between now and when Alex Ferguson was in charge of Aberdeen is that, not only did he have better players, but they also had one of the best managers of all time at the helm, the key wasn’t “belief”.

There is an aggregate scoreline of 5-0 between the two sides so far this term and Rangers will be looking to apply the same tempo and pressure that the opposition simply couldn’t live with in the previous two meetings, remember it was 1-0 going on three or four on the opening day.

Should Aberdeen beat Rangers?

No

No

To claim that Aberdeen “should” beat Rangers is some claim, they should certainly be competitive and have a game plan that will give them a good chance but the difference in squad quality suggests that there “should” only be one outcome.
