Miller 34(pen),  52, Jelavic 67

This game was something of a modern classic.

After a strong start to the season with maximum points in the bag from the first five games, Rangers travelled north to Pittodrie aiming to make it six wins in a row.

Aberdeen took the lead through a Scott Vernon opener. They then doubled their lead on the half hour mark as Chris Maguire turned the ball in from close range. The Gers had it all to do at this point in the game.

Rangers responded on 34 minutes from the penalty spot as Kenny Miller converted. This came after on-loan winger Vladimir Weiss was toppled in the box and referee Willie Collum pointed to the spot.

After the break, Rangers rallied and were right back in the game. The equaliser duly followed only seven minutes into the second half.

Steven Naismith and Steven Davis combined effectively for Miller to grab his second of the game with a stunning, clinical finish. Rangers were now in the mood.

The away side kept pushing and got themselves in front with just over 20 minutes left to play.

The Aberdeen defence were pushing up following a long ball by their keeper, only for Rangers defence to instantly return it.

The Dons backline was completely caught out by a Lee McCulloch flick leaving Naismith in acres of space, having sprung the offside trap. He approached the Aberdeen keeper and then rolled the ball to a grateful Nikica Jelavic to slot in to an empty net.

Rangers held on to their lead for a vital, morale-boosting win. They joined Celtic level on 18 points but remained in first place thanks to goals scored.

Tomorrow, a similar spirited perfromance and result would suffice.
