Rabbi Matondo has made a decent first impression as a Rangers player, speaking well as part of his announcement and looking genuinely excited at the prospect of playing for a big club that expects success.

Our exploits in the Europa League last season raised our profile and the opportunity to play in the Champions League will also have been a draw, however, before he even had the chance to move to the club, he was hearing good things, as reported by The Daily Express:

“I’ve heard a bit from Aaron (Ramsey) when we were in the Wales camp. He had high praise for the club and how everything is here. I’ve heard from elsewhere as well, like Jermain Defoe. He’s told me about it. So these are big names in the game.

“They’ve been here and experienced this, so it’s only right I give it a chance myself. I look forward to making memories here – hopefully great memories.”

At least Ramsey’s time at Rangers wasn’t a total waste then!

Attracting players like Ramsey and Defoe has a knock on effect as we have seen in Matondo’s case, they are hugely respected figures in British football and there isn’t much that they haven’t experienced in the game so, if they are spreading the good word about the club, then we must be doing something right.

Ross Wilson is known for the lengths that he goes to to persuade players to commit to Rangers, individual presentations based on where they would fit into the team’s style of play and highlight reels stroking their egos that show why we were attracted to them in the first place, however, sometimes, an offer from the one of the world’s most successful clubs with a 150 year history and Europa League finalists doesn’t take much thinking about.
