Preston boss Ryan Lowe has responded to speculation linking Freddie Woodman to Rangers by slapping an effective £20 million price tag on his head.

Aye right, no chance!

With a Rangers scout reported to have been in place for the recent Preston v Coventry encounter, it has led to the claims that it was the former Kilmarnock and Aberdeen keeper who was being monitored, as reported by the Scottish Sun:

“Rangers are eyeing a £3.5million summer swoop for keeper Freddie Woodman. SunSport can reveal the Preston No 1 is on the radar of Gers boss Michael Beale.”

“Ibrox scouts have watched the 25-year-old a number of times already this season, and again ran the rule over him as he kept a clean sheet against Coventry City at Deepdale on Tuesday night.”

That brought the comments from Lowe, clearly talking up his man in the biggest possible terms:

“Good, they can give us £20m for him if they want. I don’t know what he’s worth but we know he’s a top, top keeper.”

“If he continues to get those clean sheets then that’s what will happen, there will be talks of clubs and interest in him. Especially those types of clubs.”

List

Angus Gunn, Jack Butland and now Woodman have been linked as the heir to the throne between the posts at Ibrox from next season but they certainly won’t be the last names to be linked.

At 25 years of age and on target for 20 Championship shut outs this season, he is certainly not a bad shout but can the club do better with greater value returned?

Despite the Sun article claiming around £3.5 million would be enough to make a deal, Preston would be looking to maximise the return on a key figure who is contracted until the Summer of 2025.

It is a priority for Rangers this Summer and money will need to be spent. The best option needs to be identified, whatever the relative cost within the budget available.

We won`t spend £3.5 million on a goalkeeper who is inexperienced at the top level .
