Ally McCoist has confirmed he is interested in adding Arnold Peralta and Stevie Smith to the squad and he’s hopeful both deals can be completed shortly.

24 year old Peralta has been capped by Honduras 13 times, playing in last year’s Olympics games and the midfielder is set to become Ally’s 5th signing of the season shortly.

Stevie left Rangers for Norwich in 2010 and seems to be over his injury worries now and the 27 year old could be the 6th addition off the summer so far.

After deciding to not continue his spell in America, the fullback spent the second half of last season training at Murray Park with the squad to keep fit and has impressed Ally during those displays.

The club rubbish rumours that a deal has already been done with the player, as has been reported in the media, but they state ‘an agreement certainly doesn’t seem to be far away.’

Speaking to the Official Site McCoist said.

‘There’s definitely an interest in Stevie. It’s good to have players who have experience and who know the club. He certainly ticks the boxes. He’s got strength and experience so I’d like to sign him. Stevie was turning up for training and we tended to forget he wasn’t a signed, registered player, but hopefully we can push that one through.’

McCoist says that he felt sorry for Smith when he was here previously because of the injuries that dogged him and stopped him from really getting going with us, ut with those injuries behind him now he’s looking forward to hopefully seeing him have another bite at the cherry and making up for lost time.

As for Peralta, McCoist adds.

‘We are close now with Arnold too. Terms have been agreed with Arnold so hopefully in the next few days we can push that one through. He will certainly give us a bit of bite in the middle of the park.’
