Old Firm in England? Talksport never mention the obvious

Image for Old Firm in England? Talksport never mention the obvious

Another day, another example of Talksport insulting the intelligence of most listeners by bringing up the knackered, boring ‘debate’ of the Old Firm in the Premier League and how they would fare.

Today, as reported by the Scottish Sun, we had the pleasure of the controversial or ill-informed Jamie O’Hara claiming “I think both teams (Rangers and Celtic) would struggle to stay in the Premier League, they’d find it tough.”

“Would they survive over the course of a season, are they better than West Brom, Sheffield United and Fulham? I don’t know.”

O’Hara also stated that Fulham would win the SPFL Premiership and on their current budget I’d like to think so.

It seems that this silly argument and false equivalence is used by Talksport every few days, leading to publicity and talking points in the papers but it’s really not a good look and surely has an effect on regular listeners?

In the James Bisgrove interview featured today on Vital Rangers, the Rangers commercial director explained that “we have to acknowledge the variations in the broadcasting landscape and the very big differences in these revenues. If you end bottom of the table in the English Premier League you will receive around €100 million. If you end up winning the Scottish Premier League you would receive around €4 million.”

So how about that Jamie O’Hara and Talksport.

Should we give Fulham, West Brom etc, 4 million per year to compete and send 100 million up the road to Ibrox to see what kinda team Gerrard can put together?

Would they get to the Europa League Last 32 in consecutive seasons with this very modest budget.

It is this blatant obvious disparity that Talksport fail to mention every single time.
