Rangers will wear the white commerative 150th anniversary shirt against Dundee today.

Following on from the celebrations earlier this month at the home game against Aberdeen when the club opted to utilise the traditional blue home jersey, the tribute to Rangers early heritage will be adorned by the team on this occasion.

The club confirmed the plan this week, adding that the shirt has been a resounding success amongst the fans:

“The Gallant Pioneers shirt, complete with commemorative crest and details inspired by our earliest team photograph, has proven incredibly popular with supporters and has already become our best-selling change kit in recent seasons.”

Class

The shirt stands out thanks to its simplicity and the collar style reminiscent of the bygone era it represents yet ironically that impression is dimished with the sponsor logos added to the kit for the players to wear. Surely an omission could have been possible for this one-off time?

Whilst justifiable scepticism remains of Castore’s many and repeated merchandise offerings, on this one – the initial offering – the brief was executed very well and they should be credited for it.

The shirt will make its likely only appearance on the pitch today but it will go down as a collectors item amongst the fans and a memory of this landmark 150th season.
