Well that was eventful. Rangers left it late, but ultimately depart Dundee with three precious Premiership points secured.

Over seven minutes of added on time came and went but finally the whistle sounded. Relief, repreive, joy – it had it all.

The first half was just not good enough from the champions. Flat, lethargic, insipid play was the case for most of it, including an early goal conceded where the visitors were caught sleeping. On a terrible pitch, pretty football wasn’t possible but it took too long for Rangers to take responsibility and show the required levels in terms of application as well as urgency.

A penalty miss from James Tavernier compounded the misery, meaning the team went into the break facing a deficit. The turnaround would see early changes with Joe Aribo and Fashion Sakala introduced from the beginning of the second half.

Turning point

It took Rangers around 10 minutes to get going then a burst of chances came within a five minute period.

Further changes were made with Kemar Roofe coming on and signs that Dundee were tiring. This was the decisive turning point with the Jamaica international heavily involved in both of the goals that would turn the tide and win the game for Rangers.

Again, he was busy and productive but most importantly, he was dangerous. In the last half hour, things were much better in the final third with Alfredo Morelos supported by Roofe, Aribo, Sakala as well as Kent who had another lacklustre game, domestically. It was much different from the first half and now Dundee were feeling the threat.

Aaron Ramsey tapped in an effort across the keeper from Roofe to galvanise the comeback then the winner on 86 minutes sparked bedlam in the away end.

Another foray forward saw Connor Goldson dummy a cross ball for that man Roofe to attempt a shot on goal but his blocked effort sat up nicely for the centre back playing as an impromptu striker and he made no mistake with a superb controlled finish into the back of the net.

1-2 Rangers. A job done the hard way once again and now time for everyone to take a breather over the next fortnight.
