Nacho Novo famously said “no thanks” once upon a time but now he has agreed to a new life adventure in Kentucky, USA.

The Rangers hero has taken up a coaching role with recently established Lexington Sporting Club who will operate from next year in the United Soccer League, League One.

It is considered ‘Division Three’, sitting below the USL Championship which operates under the top tier, Major League Soccer. The different cultural context and franchise system means US ‘soccer’ does not and can not have a proper pyramid system in the British or European sense but the game is further expanding across the pond.

Lexington is a city in the state of Kentucky which is said to be the ‘horse capital of the world‘.

Novo will take charge of the U-23 side whilst assisting the head coach Sam Stockley at Lexington in what will hopefully be a great opportunity for the popular figure amongst the Rangers support.

He is said to be eager to embrace the new challenge:

“Not many times you have the chance to build something from scratch, so for me, it was an opportunity I could not turn down”

“Everyone here, including the ownership, is very serious about what they want to do, making this a proper soccer team that connects with the community and does well.”

Best wishes to the hero of Florence 2008 in this new football experience following on from his playing days in Spain, Scotland, Poland, England, Northern Ireland as well as the USA where he played with Stockley at Carolina Railhawks at USL level.
