Alfredo Morelos remains a player being watched by Lille despite their recent signing of Jonathan David for £27million, with the French club’s owner admitting that he is still an admirer.

Speaking to the BBC, Gerard Lopez, gave an update on the transfer saga and whether or not his club would return with another bid for the Colombian international having allegedly agreed personal terms despite rumours of offers of £13.7m and £16.25m being rejected by the Ibrox club.

“Obviously Morelos is a good player,” Lopez told the BBC.

“He’s part of a list of players we’ve looked at, but we’ve made a move for another player, so we have something like 11 offensive players for four spots now.

“He’s a player who is extremely effective and at this stage we’re watching, but nothing’s done.”

Steven Gerrard said at the very start of the current transfer window that every player has their price and Morelos’s has long been said to be £20m, at least, before Rangers will entertain negotiations.

It had looked, for a while, as if El Bufalo was counting the days until he left Scottish football, however, his return to goalscoring form – which was praised by Gerrard – was a welcome sight for those of a Light Blue persuasion.

Will Morelos still be at Rangers when the transfer window shuts?

With Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe added to the attacking ranks, Morelos will be keen to keep a hold of his starting place, especially with the tantalising prospect of firing his team to an 11 point lead before Celtic play their next game after Boli Bolingoli’s recent indiscretion.

A fit and in-form Alfredo Morelos remains a potent force, and one that Gerrard will be more than happy to still have at his disposal, as long as the likes of Lille continue to just watch from afar.
