Alfredo Morelos silenced his critics in the finest fashion by scoring two goals and creating the other in a 3-0 win over St Mirren and drew praise from Steven Gerrard on a good weekend for Gers fans, as reported by The Daily Record.

The Colombian international now has two assists and two goals in the Scottish Premiership, for a player who has had his “head turned” he is going about his business with consummate professionalism.

When asked by Rangers TV if he was impressed with his strikers start to the domestic campaign, he said:

“I think his two performances domestically have been fine.

“I thought he was decent at Aberdeen – could have been better in taking his chances and getting his shots off.

“Today I thought his all-round performance was good.

“More often than not, if you’ve got his talent, and you play well the numbers will come.

“They came today and I’m pleased with his all-round contribution.”

Morelos remains the subject of intense transfer speculation and few observers of football north of the border would back the man from Cerete to still be plying his trade at Ibrox when the window shuts in October, however, he is clearly determined to prove his doubters wrong and repay the manager’s continued trust in him.

Will Morelos still be at Rangers when the transfer window shuts?

Yes

No

No

Rangers have an early advantage in the league after Celtic dropped points at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock on Sunday, and Gerrard will want to ensure that his side don’t take their foot off the gas when St Johnstone visit Glasgow on Wednesday with Morelos – once again – likely to lead the line for the Light Blues and few would bet against him adding to his tally now that he has serious competition for a starting place.
