Brian Laudrup is beginning to present the sole voice of reason within Scottish football and in his Daily Mail column has reflected on Alfredo Morelos’s return to form with speculation continuing to surround his future.

Having left the Light Blues on a disappointment himself, he feels that the Colombian international should consider getting his head down for one more season with the possibility of leaving on a high a real incentive.

So what has Laudrup said?

When analysing Morelos’s match winning performance against St Mirren – two goals and an assist – the great Dane looked at the extra competition in the squad and man management from Steven Gerrard as possible factors but also knows that the best way to earn a big money move is by scoring goals:

“The change in his performance level was obvious. It was like seeing the old Morelos again. Whatever Steven Gerrard said to him in their chat will stay private, but it clearly worked.

“Sunday was more a case of back to normal. The first touch and the work-rate were there again. Two goals is obviously a satisfying return but it was also the way he linked with the team and provided that focal point.

“Morelos has been clear for a long time that he wants to play elsewhere at some stage in his career. That’s fair enough and at 24 he maybe feels he is ready now.

“If I was him, and this is just my opinion, I would love to leave Rangers at the end of a huge success. He hasn’t won anything in his time at Ibrox. So if he does exit in this window, perhaps he will look back and think he should have stayed for just one more year.

“Again, though, an offer might arrive that is too good for either the club or the player to turn down. That’s life in football.”

So is Laudrup correct?

Absolutely, Morelos doing what he does best is always a good thing and although clubs will be unlikely to ignore his form over the first half of last season, nor could the drop after January be put to one side either.

Will Morelos still be at Rangers when the transfer window shuts?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Gerrard admitted that he felt his talisman had had his “head turned” but in a show of faith, backed him to demonstrate the sort of performance that has made him a multi-million pound target.

Laudrup is right though, in an ideal world, Morelos would love to leave the club having scored the goals that fired Rangers to the Scottish Premiership trophy, but football just doesn’t work like that and if an acceptable bid is made, he will more than likely depart – hopefully there will be more games like Sunday’s before he does though.
