Former Rangers forward and all-round pantomime villain, Steven Naismith, has suggested that Alfredo Morelos’s time at Ibrox may be up in an interview with The Scottish Sun.

The Colombian international found himself out of Steven Gerrard’s squad for the victory over Kilmarnock with the gaffer claiming that it was an “easy decision” to make.

When asked if he believed that cashing in on El Bufalo was now the best course of action, he said:

“I think it would be best all round that Rangers get the money they expect and Morelos moves on.

“I think he has shown since they have come back, and the manager has referenced it, that he isn’t fully focused on the job at hand.

“Especially this season, you can’t afford to have anyone who is risking the team performance.”

Naismith, on this occasion, is right, Morelos may have over 80 goal involvements over the last couple of seasons but at this moment in time he isn’t contributing at all and doesn’t look like doing so any time soon.

Rangers are said to be back in talks with Lille after their latest bid of over £16million was rejected, however, the Ligue 1 side aren’t far away from the long established valuation of £20m for a player who cost less than £1m when Pedro Caixinha was persuaded by Jonatan Johansson to make him back-up to Eduardo Herrera.

Morelos hasn’t played badly since the start of the season but he has been far from his usual self, however, there was a noticeable increase in tempo from Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe in Gerrard’s forward line on Saturday with both players keen to make a positive impression.

His three year stay in Glasgow has never been a quiet one and it finally looks as though the appalling treatment he gets off some within the Scottish media is about to end, given the excuses made for a certain striker across the city it’s easy to forgive Buff if he has had enough – I for one will always look back at his Europa League highlight reel from last season with great fondness and more than a little moisture in the corner of my eye.
