Wednesday night was another worrying display on the pitch for Rangers with more dropped points and a continuation of the recent poor form.

Alfredo Morelos got the first goal for the Gers shortly after Aberdeen’s second, but a late James Tavernier penalty would only secure a point for the Scottish champions.

As for the Colombian, he is scoring at present, but many are wanting more. He is not at his devastating best or anywhere close to it.

This could be down to a role he is being asked to play, whilst there are valid questions about his overall application and performance levels at present, something that his manager, Steven Gerrard has commented on.

With Rangers sluggish and not convincing so far this season, supporters and media pundits have questioned if the mentality and desire within the dressing room is enough to retain the title or have some of the players maxed out on delivering 55?

The following weeks and months will answer that, but it is clear that we need more than what is being served up, at present.

Yesterday, Morelos was caught in the crossfire on this debate, having posted pictures on his Instagram account showing him posing with a haul of Louis Vuitton designer purchases.

Now, there is nuance to this type of thing which should be pointed out.

The Colombian international isn’t a Rangers supporter and doesn’t ‘feel’ like the rank and file do.

Will he have been disappointed not to have won against Aberdeen? Absolutely. Should he lock himself in, at home to get over the dropped points? No.

There is a middle ground, here. It is a generational and a maturity thing too, as you certainly wouldn’t see Steven Davis, Scott Arfield or Allan McGregor posting their shopping pics at all, never mind the day after a big disappointment.

There is also the fact that Morelos came from relative poverty and now he leads a comfortable life, is able to give back to his family and community at home through his charity foundation and generally, he is happy to be successful.

That may be, in terms of wealth but just how determined he is to achieve more glory on the pitch is what matters most to the Rangers supporters.
