It appears that former SPL chief executive Roger Mitchell has some explaining to do.

Now based in Italy, Celtic fan Mitchell is known to make regular commentary and offer his opinions on Scottish football from afar, on his Twitter account.

Previously, he announced that he has plans to organise the funds to buy the Parkhead club in the future, so there is no doubt as to where his loyalties lie.

He has now waded in on the latest manufactured controversy over referees in the Premiership and in particular, John Beaton’s decision to award Rangers a penalty on Wednesday night against Aberdeen.

Following that, the online discussion veered into those in the corridors of power at Hampden, running the Scottish game. Given that he was formerly in one such position, I’m sure Mitchell would know a thing or two about what goes on and would still be privvy to certain information.

He then went on to make a claim, but predictably, didn’t elaborate further.

In the talk of a need for change at the top and from the current governing bodies in regard to refereeing, Mitchell was posed the hypothetical question as to what he would do if he was running Celtic right now?

The reference is to Ian Maxwell, the incumbent chief executive of the Scottish FA.

Which club, indeed.

Go on Roger, tell us some more please.
