Pedro Mendes could be set for a move back to Portugal this month as Rangers fight to raise the cash necessary to keep Kris Boyd, reports The Daily Record.

The Portugal midfielder has confirmed that he is aware of the interest being shown in him by Sporting Lisbon, and it’s likely that an offer will be made in the coming weeks as the Portugese side look to replace Miguel Veloso who is set to move.

To be honest, Mendes has been incredibly inconsistent since arriving at the club. He has been overran in midfield, particularly away from home against poorer opposition.

The fee quoted is £1.5 million, which may outrage some Rangers fans but sadly, when your team has made the amount of confessions ours has recently regarding the poor state of it’s finances – coupled with us having a banker on our board – you simply don’t get top dollar for your players in those situations.

If one of our better players has to go to keep Boyd, it has to be Mendes.
