Porto’s recent valuation of Alfredo Morelos has brought back into discussion amongst Gers fans how much we should be looking to sell our prized assets for with many believing that £10million is far from acceptable for the Colombian international.

With over £16m being turned down last season it’s easy to see why fans would come to this decision but there comes a point when we need to let go and have to start cashing in our chips on star players, the current share issue a perfect example of us not quite being there yet in terms of self-sufficiency.

Football finance expert, Kieran Maguire, author of the Price of Football, has praised the initiative given the current climate especially when considering the commitment made by fans over the last 18-months, as reported by Football Insider:

“The Rangers fanbase is in a very positive mood at the moment.

“So I think they will be looking, either individually or collectively, to put together requests for tranches of shares.

“At the same time, we are in the middle of a pandemic and many people have had challenges to their personal financial circumstances.

“So that is something that will make it a little bit more difficult for them. But if they get to the £6.75m, that will be an incredible achievement.”

Maguire is right, Rangers fans have been incredible over the last year and a half, season ticket sales again being sold out, MyGers, Edmiston House season tickets, record merchandise sales and now a share issue, if the funding can be secured, it would just be the latest in a long line of examples as to why those of a Light Blue persuasion are truly, the best in the world.
