As low as Rangers fans may feel about the possibility of Alfredo Morelos leaving Ibrox, that Santos Borre may be the man to replace him has certainly provided some crumbs of comfort.

The River Plate striker is approaching the end of his contract and despite demoing top level wages and a sizeable signing on fee, he would still represent something of a bargain.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Ger, Alan Hutton, is hugely excited by the deal:

“The backroom staff would have been monitoring this for a long time. It’s not just come out of the blue.

“They’ll know, without Alfredo, he’s a very good talent and someone they’d want to bring to the club.

“If he has been valued at £15million but he is on a free, it’s kind of an easy decision. That is if you’ve done your homework.

“If you know what he’s good at, what he would bring to your team and what he could change then it’s an absolute no brainer to bring someone with that top class quality to in.

“Should he come to the club, he obviously knows Alfredo. He can settle in quickly, start well, scores goals, then you can make that money in the future. It’s a win-win for Rangers either way.”

If Ross Wilson can persuade a player worth in the region of £15m to sign for Rangers without a transfer fee exchanging hands then he will really have outdone himself this time, and we all thought getting a fee for Eros Grezda would be his finest work!
