Alfredo Morelos is an enigma. In his two seasons where he scored 30 goals Rangers were miles away from winning any silverware – 2019 league cup final aside – and yet in his poorest, in terms of goals, he played a major part in us securing the Scottish Premiership title in record fashion.

He is undoubtedly a better player, more disciplined, more mature and has proven that he finally understands how to lead the line for the benefit of the team and not just his own personal tally.

Not that this seems to have improved his transfer value if a recent report is to be believed.

Speculation linking El Bufalo with a move to Porto has seen almost daily updates and rumours of a £10million bid from the Portuguese giants has seen Football Insider “reveal” what the Gers consider to be an appropriate fee, and it’s far from the long reported £20m mark:

“Rangers have told Porto they want £13million for Alfredo Morelos.

“The Glasgow giants have been contacted by the Portuguese club about a potential deal for the Colombian striker.

“It has been reported in Portugal that Porto are only willing to go as far as £10million for the front man.

“He has a contract with Rangers that runs until 2023 and talks over an extension have failed to get off the ground this year.”

Considering we rejected over £16m last summer I’d be very surprised if we have dropped this low, even if you bear in mind factors such as his goal scoring form not being at his previous levels and Covid-19.

I think anything over £15m might be more tempting, purely because we got Fashion Sakala in for free and we already have Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, the need to get maximum value isn’t as desperate as it was in previous seasons.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

When the Scottish press is full of talk about Odsonne Edouard going for £15-18m with just a year left on his contract, to value the Rangers striker at less than this is an insult, not only to the player but to the club and the fans – £13m? I’ll tell the jokes.
