Lafferty’s Unfinished Business

Kyle Lafferty, in fairness he wasn’t alone, decided that he didn’t want to transfer his contract over to the Rangers newco following our liquidation back in 2012. He’s stated that he’s got ‘unfinished business’ with the club though and would ‘jump at the chance’ of returning to Ibrox.

‘Some Rangers fans have asked me if I’d go back there and I’d jump at the chance. What happened for me at Rangers was disappointing. That wasn’t how I wanted to end my career there. But it had to be done.’

The life long Rangers fan, who is currently on loan in Turkey with Rizespor from Norwich, is keen to ‘change people’s perceptions’ of him having been involved in a string of on and off the field issues that didn’t do him too many favours, besides – which in many ways is understandable – his decision to move on when he did.

He says that he’s grown up and now lets his football do the talking, which the Northern Ireland international would do at Ibrox if he ever got the chance to come back again, having helped us to a hat-trick of titles between 2009 and 2011, on each occasion scoring the goal that clinched those titles.

‘I’ve matured, definitely. I realised that if you want to mess around then you need to follow it up with football. When I was at Rangers I didn’t do that enough. I’ve matured and I let my football do the talking and I’m enjoying it much more.’

You can’t ever rule out anything in football so one day maybe the 27-year-old would come back, the bigger question is would the fans want this?
