Following reports that Bournemouth would allow former England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe to leave this club this month, Rangers have inevitably been linked with the hotshot striker in some quarters.

Sky Sports covered the suggestions yesterday as the now 36-year-old has struggled for game time so far this season and has only featured really in the domestic cup competitions.

Whilst I can’t see any specific reports that suggest manager Steven Gerrard has a firm or concrete interest, the player is being loosely linked with a number of top clubs now. Rangers fans on social media, in particular, have warmed incredibly quickly to the suggestion, given how we all know how another goal threat in the team as a partner for, or alternative to, Alfredo Morelos would give our title hopes a real boost in the final months of the current campaign.

The main issue would be the wriggle room on his wages, but as per earlier reports of potential interest in Carlos Pena and the possibility of him moving on before the window closes, that would certainly help push this one through.

If our perceived interest is true of course.
