New signing James Sands has provided an insight as to what the supporters should expect from him and his style of play.
There was also what appeared to be an admission of his preferred position when he spoke of his qualities, unprompted.
The information came from Rangers TV earlier today, with the release of the first look and words from Rangers latest American recruit.
He was asked about what he can bring to his new team to which the 21-year old responded:
“A lot of my key attributes are they way I read the game, how I control the tempo, making smart tackles, tough in the tackle.”
“I’m not going to do anything too flashy but as a holding midfielder you need someone who is effective, going to get the job done and that is something I can definitely add to the group.”

Now maybe this is reading too much into an early conversation and generic type of interview, but here Sands clearly depicts himself as a busy, hard working defensive midfielder. As is widely known, he can also play in central defence and this is something that the player went on to allude to.
His versatility will be an asset to Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but the USA international will be determined to pin down his credentials and make the desired impact without being known as a stop gap option in different areas of the pitch.
Conversely, the player could find that his early opportunities in the team come in defence, where he has previous experience playing in a back line of three and four.
