Rangers supporters may have to wait to see new signing James Sands in action for the Scottish champions.

That is because there is a club v country debate looming, IF the New Yorker is called up for the USMNT’s triple header World Cup qualifiers at the end of this month. The stars and stripes are set to face crucial games at home to El Salvador and Honduras with a crunch game away to Canada in between.

Those fixtures will take place on 27th, 30th January and 3rd February respectively.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Premiership is due to resume on Tuesday 18th January, with Rangers travelling to Pittodrie, three days before hosting Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup. An early chance could arise for Sands if he settles in quickly and shows up well, otherwise a cap call will cause frustration at Ibrox and from the fans perspective.

He would almost certainly be ruled out for the scheduled Old Firm encounter, set for 2nd February at Parkhead.

In what appears to be an ominous sign, Sands featured for the US in their 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Honduras in December, their last competitive game, winning his seventh cap in the process.
