Lewis Ferguson is a name that refuses to go away and after handing in a transfer request at Aberdeen, the Scotland youth cap has only served to fan the flames of speculation even further, a £4million valuation the only real stumbling block.

The obvious family connection to Rangers is one that will always see him linked with a move to Ibrox, however, recent reports of him being “desperate” to join Steven Gerrard’s revolution could yet see a transfer become a reality, something that Kevin Phillips – speaking to Football Insider – feels is a very real possibility having played with his uncle (not dad!) at Blackpool:

“I played with his dad, Barry, I know him and how passionate he was about Rangers.

“You have the chance of going to play for the Champions and where they are heading under Steven Gerrard.

”Especially when you’re playing up there and you’re Scottish and you have that relationship.

“Why would you not be excited? It’s his dream. Let’s not forget there is going to be noisy crowds and European football there next season.

““I’m sure the player would be very excited to join them if he can.”

I keep going back and forth with this one, the best argument that I’ve seen for us signing him is that we have seen huge improvements from every midfielder that has signed for us under Gerrard and Ferguson, despite having made over 150 senior appearances, still has plenty to learn.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

His ability to find space in the box and make runs from deep as well as his athleticism are key attributes and aren’t too dissimilar to ones possessed by Scott Arfield who is at the opposite end of his career, whether or not Ross Wilson is prepared to pay the asking price – said to be £4million upwards – is another question.
