Steven Gerrard has told Umar Sadiq to improve if he is to play a part in the Rangers first team any time soon.

The Ibrox boss delivered a fairly damning assessment of Sadiq’s current progress at the club after Wednesday night’s win over Ayr United, during which Alfredo Morelos got himself suspended for next months’ League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.

With Kyle Lafferty cup-tied for the encounter, it leaves Sadiq as the sole natural striker available for the Hampden clash.

However, Gerrard believes the Nigerian forward must improve to play a part.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said:

It’s a frustration – we lose a player in form and we are going to have to find a way to get the job done without a natural nine unless Sadiq comes to the party and improves an awful lot between now and then.

It’s not exactly looking positive that he’ll feature, so it begs the question – is it too soon to write of Sadiq as a Rangers flop?

The tall striker made the move from Roma in the summer transfer window on loan but so far has made just 3 appearances, all of which have come from the bench.

Do you think he has a Ranger future? Will ever impress before he moves back to the Italian giants? Have your say in our poll below…
